World Kiswahili Day Meeting at Maseno University
Follow up meeting on Kiswahili day that happened on 21st may 2024 in the University Board Room. The world will celebrate World Kiswahili Day on 7th july every year as directed by UNESCO member states in its 41st session in Paris. Maseno University will be hosting the event this year.
The chair of the event was Dr.Ongarora, Dean School of Arts and Social Sciences. The meeting was attended by members from Nation Media group and university stakeholders. The main aim of the meeting was collaboration between Maseno University and Nation Media Group to facilitate world Kiswahili Day. Discussion on why we should hold world Kiswahili Day were: promote cultural diversity, creating awareness, fostering dialogue, promote multilingualism and to unleash Kiswahili’s potential in the digital era.
The target people of the event are publishers, bookshops, authors and institutions such as Maseno University. Reasons why Maseno should host this event are: showcase opportunities, network and collaboration with stakeholders, offer a platform of unified policy advocacy, and provide a forum for stakeholders to update their Kiswahili product.
Nation media group presented various importances that will come with collaboration such as extensive brand exposure, product, service and membership activation, guaranteed audiences from far and wide, industry insights, networking opportunities with potential customers, live TV coverage and bringing In their resources.
The event components included: cultural showcase, networking sessions, exhibition booths, live TV panel and thematised sessions and curtain raising supplements where different people will be showcasing their talents.
