Maseno University research team (Dr. Benjamin Ombok, Dr. Erick Ogello, Prof. Harun Ogindo, Dr. Fredrick Aila, and Dr. Erick Oteyo) joined the Kisumu County team (CEC Agriculture, Chief Officer-Fisheries and Director-Fisheries) to update the Governor of Kisumu County, Prof. Peter Anyang' Nyongo on the upcoming EU-funded Farm2Fork project titled ‘Potentials of Agro-Ecological Practices in East Africa With a Focus on Circular Water-Energy-Nutrient Systems (PrAEctiCe) on 5th October, 2022. Maseno University is partnering with Kisumu County among other 14 institutions around the world to implement the PrAEctiCe project, which aims at providing a novel Agro-Ecology indicator set for East Africa, to help smallholder farmers in their agro-ecological transition.

The project goes beyond the existing indicator frameworks by putting the “concept into action” with a decision support tool for Agro-Ecology advisors supporting the selection of the best suited combination of agro-ecological farming practices in a local context. In addition, PrAEctiCe will put a strong focus on circular water-energy-nutrient systems of integrated aqua-agriculture, an agro-ecological practice with high potential for efficient farming with minimal climate impacts, which has not been sufficiently explored in previous indicator works. The 4-year project will be hosted at the departments of Animal and Fisheries Sciences and Crop and Soil Sciences in Maseno University, and Kisumu County’s VicinAqua site, Nyalenda.
