SDHUD Visits Maseno University for Hostel Project Handover
On 16 February 2026, a delegation from State Department for Housing and Urban Development SDHUD visited Maseno University for the handover of plans for a proposed student hostel that will accommodate 1,296 students. This development marks an important step in strengthening the University’s capacity to house more students on campus. However, with approximately 9,000 students admitted each academic year and numbers steadily increasing, the need for additional accommodation remains significant.
The SDHUD team, led by Architect Mr. Hempstone Nyawanda, was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Julius Nyabundi, who guided them through the proposed construction sites identified by the University. The visit provided an opportunity for the team to assess the locations and better understand the University’s infrastructure expansion plans.
The delegation also toured recently completed buildings constructed under the leadership of Prof. Nyabundi. This was an important part of the visit, as it enabled the team to appreciate the quality and standards of ongoing developments at Maseno University and to ensure that the proposed hostel project will align with those benchmarks.
The visit concluded with a meeting at the Vice-Chancellor’s boardroom with the presence of the Regional Director Mr. Buoga Jared where discussions focused on project expectations, timelines and the shared commitment to enhancing student welfare through improved accommodation facilities.
