Maseno University shines at the Kenya Universities Music Festivals (KUPAA) held at Maasai Mara University from 12th to 19th March, 2023.
The only University on the equator affirmed its place as a Music fountain by competitively participating in 27 categories and garnering position 1 in 12 entries, Position 2 in 9 entries and position 3 in 6 entries. The following scooped position one: best composition about your Varsity; ‘Chuo Maseno’, Best Zilizopendwa by live band; ‘Tshihungu’, Own Composition; ‘Laughter’; live DJ competition; Rap category, Spoken Word, French Poems; Operatic Bass Solo; Brass Solo; Recorder Ensemble; Spoken Word; Kiswahili Verse on Syndemic Diseases (NSDC).
The Department of Music and Theatre Studies hereby extends gratitude to the Vice Chancellor Prof. Julius Nyabundi for enabling our students and staff to participate in the 2nd KUPAA Music Festival- 2023. Support and attendance from the Directorate of Student Affairs demonstrated by Prof. Peter Oracha and Mr. Kweya Opande is highly acknowledged. The Music mentors in the department did a marvellous job: Dr. Lilian Odero, Prof. Rose Ongati, Dr. Abigail Masasabi, Dr. Malachi Apudo, Dr. Jackline Bulinda, Dr. Philip Akumu; thank you for nurturing talent in our students. I highly appreciate Maseno University students, complemented by SOMU Vice Chair Vivian Mugure for participating and propelling the name of Maseno University to the greatest heights and delivering their best.

Best composition about your Varsity " Chuo Maseno" composed by Dr.Bulinda , best Live Dj Competition, Amapiano Dance Challenge and best Rap Category trained and choreographed by Dr. Malachi Apudo, best Zilizopendwa from Kenya with Live band "Tsihungu" and Own choice composition "Laughter" composed by Dr.Masasabi, French Poems, Operatic Bass solo, Best Brass Solo by Prof. Rose Ongati, Best Recorder ensemble by Dr.Akumu, best Spoken word and best Kiswahili verse on Syndemic Diseases( NSDC) directed by Dr.Lilian Odero and lastly the winning African Drum solo and African Band Ensemble trained by Mr. Jared Adero.
Maseno had 12 positions One, 9 position twos and 6 position threes.
