Maseno University Education students joined the rest of the country in commemorating Teachers’ Day on October 5, 2026, by planting more than 200 trees within the University grounds.
The tree-planting exercise was part of the University’s environmental conservation efforts and contributes to the national tree-growing initiative aimed at supporting the Presidential Directive to have 15 billion trees planted by 2030.
The initiative is also aligned with the Ministry of Education’s responsibility, through its State Department for University Education, to contribute to the national target. As part of this commitment, Maseno University has propagated approximately 260,000 tree seedlings and plans to plant 130,000 trees as its contribution towards the Ministry’s target.

Speaking during the tree-planting exercise, participants noted that tree growing is an important component of environmental conservation, climate action and the creation of a sustainable future for generations to come.
To achieve its ambitious tree-growing and planting targets, Maseno University has partnered with various stakeholders, development partners, organizations and well-wishers. These partnerships are expected to provide additional support in the propagation, distribution and planting of tree seedlings across the University and surrounding communities.
