The Chief guest during this year’s AGM was the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eric Nyambedha, who was accompanied by his deputy in charge of Administration, Finance and Development (AFD) Prof. David Ongarora.
The VC appreciated the role of the Sacco in the institution and pointed out that the Sacco has been subjected to mismanagement over the years. The VC, who is an active member of the Sacco, and who, at one time served as the Sacco treasurer, recounted the ordeals the Sacco has gone through and implored the current board and employees to dedicate their time to serving members and ensuring that Sacco resources are used to benefit the membership. He tempered his speech with humour and referring the audience to sections of the scripture, including a reference to Cor. 4:1-2 that talks about stewardship.
He emphasized that good leadership strives to place the needs of members first in every decision and execution. It is only through this that members will be able to enjoy the fruits of their savings in the SACCO. He took the members through the journey to recovery after years of mismanagement, however, another team joined the Sacco and resorted to the old habits of mismanagement. He expressed his desire to see the Sacco serve the members by protecting its resources.

He acknowledged the existence of an MoU between the Sacco and the University, and promised that he would ensure that the MoU is operationalized as envisaged. He emphasized that his administration views the Sacco as an intergral unit of the staff welfare of the University.
Prof. Nyambedha summarized his remarks by encouraging members to talk positively about the SACCO at all times to attract new members. He promised to use his office to support the process of recruitment of new SACCO members by embedding it in the new staff orientation programme.
On his part, The Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Finance and Development, Prof. David Ongarora, encouraged members to embrace the Sacco, recalling that he acquired his first asset through a loan advanced by a Sacco way back in 1992. He also wished the Sacco well in its operations, and encouraged the Board to serve the members.
The AGM was attended by 218 members. The Sub County cooperative officer, Mr. Philip Akama, presided over the meeting in his role as the representative of the Kisumu County Government.
