Maseno University, Kenya Power Strengthen Strategic Partnership Through Stakeholder Engagement

Maseno University has strengthened its engagement with Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), following a high-level meeting with a delegation from the utility company’s Head Office at Stima Plaza, Nairobi.
The engagement brought together representatives from Maseno University and KPLC to explore opportunities for collaboration, partnership and the development of initiatives of mutual benefit to both institutions.
The KPLC delegation was led by Ms. Nelly Kiambi, Key Manager, Corporate Accounts, KPLC Stima Plaza, while Maseno University was represented by a team led by Prof. Ongarora David, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Finance and Development. The meeting was held at the Quality Assurance Boardroom at Maseno University, where discussions focused on the challenges facing the University and possible areas where strategic collaboration with KPLC could provide sustainable solutions. Addressing the delegation, Prof. Ongarora highlighted some of the operational and institutional challenges experienced by Maseno University, emphasizing the importance of partnerships with key industry stakeholders in supporting the University's mandate and enhancing service delivery.
 

“Strong partnerships between institutions of higher learning and industry are critical in addressing emerging challenges, promoting innovation and creating sustainable solutions. We value our engagement with Kenya Power and look forward to identifying practical areas of collaboration that will benefit both institutions,” Prof. Ongarora said.
In response, the KPLC delegation underscored the importance of strengthening the relationship between the two institutions. Ms. Nelly Kiambi emphasized the need for continuous engagement and collaboration, noting that closer institutional ties could create opportunities for knowledge exchange, capacity building, innovation and joint initiatives.
“There is great value in bringing our two institutions together to identify areas of mutual interest. Through sustained engagement, we can explore initiatives that create value for Maseno University, Kenya Power and the communities we serve,” Ms. Kiambi said.
The meeting further highlighted the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plans as an avenue for developing impactful programmes that respond to community needs while advancing the social and institutional objectives of both organizations.

The discussions emphasized that well-structured CSR initiatives can contribute to sustainable development, community empowerment, environmental sustainability and improved institutional relations.
Both parties expressed their commitment to maintaining an open channel of communication and exploring concrete areas of collaboration. The engagement marks an important step towards building a stronger partnership between Maseno University and Kenya Power, with a shared focus on innovation, sustainability, community impact and institutional development.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to translate the discussions into practical initiatives and opportunities for long-term collaboration.
