Maseno University School of Business hosted a colorful "Marketing Symposium: Campus Industry" in the University's South Wing. The symposium was designed to bridge the gap between the world of work and the world of academia for marketing students.

The event hosted a lineup of high-profile speakers, some of which included Dr. J.K. Mise, Program Leader; Dr. Caroline Oloo, CoD; Dr. Fredrick Aila, Dean SBE; Miss Eugenia Muma, CEO of East Events; Mr. Jacob Ouma, KCB Kisumu Sales Manager; and Consolata Ojwang, Telkom Kenya, Western Region, Regional Manager; and Jeremiah, Accountant and Entrepreneur.

A few of the prominent discussion topics were global market trends, networking and personal branding, essential skills to thrive in marketing, threats and opportunities in the current job landscape, insider knowledge on content creation, communications skills, product knowledge, data analysis, and adapting to AI and automation.

Dr. Fredrick Aila, the Dean of the School of Business and Economics, emphasized consultancy services, specifically to the final-year students. He encouraged the students to approach them for advice, develop data analysis capabilities, and join appropriate professional associations in order to place themselves well in the job market.

The symposium provided a platform for discussing the effective interaction among marketing students and professionals from the corporate world, with discussion points being how to prepare marketing students for the ever-evolving employment sector. It also provided a platform for the students to learn from professionals, interact with professionals, and set themselves up for effective marketing careers.
This year's symposium actually bridged the gap between academic theory and industry practice. Students left the event not only with information but also with the assurance to build successful marketing careers.
