The much-anticipated Eastern Africa Sports 2024 kicked off in style at Maseno University, marking a significant milestone in the region’s sporting calendar. The event brought together athletes, officials, and sports enthusiasts from across Eastern Africa to celebrate the power of sports in fostering unity and excellence.

The Federation of Eastern Africa University Sports (FEAUS) is affiliated to FASU. The Federation has a history that dates back to the 1950s during the times of the when the East Africa Community had one University of East Africa with three Colleges (Makerere, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam University Colleges). The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Julius Nyabundi, Vice-Chancellor of Maseno University, who welcomed the participants with warm words of encouragement and pride. The vibrant event was attended by representatives from numerous universities across the region. It featured performances from Maseno University Choir and Band, an athletes’ matching and parade, symbolizing the spirit of unity.

Athletes competing in this year’s games included a wide array of disciplines, ranging from track and field to team sports such as Football, Netball, Volleyball, Rugby, Karate and Boxing. The competitions were set to take place across various facilities at Maseno University, its Campuses and Neighboring schools which have been meticulously prepared to meet international standards.

The Eastern Africa Sports 2024 is expected to leave a lasting legacy, both as a showcase of athletic prowess and as a celebration of the region’s vibrant culture and unity.
