First years reporting

Maseno University has admitted over 2900 first year students placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). The students who reported on September 8th 2014 were all offered adequate accommodation at the University Main Campus.

The registration and orientation exercise culminated with the address by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dominic Makawiti, who said that the University has made sure that all first year students are accommodated within the University facilities.

He said that Maseno University is the only institution in Kenya that offers its courses with Information Technology (IT). The University also has WiFi systems that are available at various points that enable the students to do their course work and research comfortably on the internet.

“Our institution is on the frontline to ensure that we hasten the process of admission to ensure that students get moving with their studies,” says Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dominic Makawiti.

He added that in the previous years, students who sat their KCSE examinations had to wait for two years before they got admission into the institutions of higher learning, but this has changed drastically.
Prof. Makawiti also highlighted the challenges that the students would face during their stay at the campus and urged them to manage their freedom responsibly as they would have no chaperones to check on them every now and again.

The institution’s objective is to evolve a unique University with competitive and market oriented programmes which are academic fulfilling and rewarding while the vision is to produce graduates who are creative and flexible in the modern world, which is progressively becoming a global village.
The Vice-Chancellors address was the culmination of the weeklong programme for the 2014/2015 registration and orientation of first years. Activities included: issuance of registration and admission guidelines, address by various departments and life skills talks among others.
