The Directorate of Quality Assurance was constituted in 2011 as part of an objective framework for the establishment of Quality Assurance structures at Maseno. The main focus was the creation of a quality assurance culture within the University that would likely increase Maseno University’s competitiveness in a globally competitive quality education sector, as a statutory requirement and also as part of the  Kenya Vision 2030 flagship projects aimed at guaranteeing sustainable development.

In order to attain these stated objectives it is with noting that Maseno University is committed to ensuring the development of an effective Quality Assurance and Management systems to enhance access to quality University education and services, implement the Service Delivery Charter and monitor adherence to statutory obligations including  the University Performance Contract with the Government.

After the awarded of ISO 9001:2008 Certification surveillance audits have been conducted after every six months by Kenya Bureau of Standards in order to monitor compliance with the quality standard. In addition, the University has been conducting internal audits as part of the internal quality management control and also as a system maintenance programme.
The Directorate has been coordinating the requirements as a member of the peer quality review process that is coordinated by the Inter University Council for East Africa.  

The mandate of the Directorate of Quality Assurance includes the following:
•    Create awareness on the need for Quality Assurance within the University.
•    Periodically determine and document relevance of academic programmes wit stakeholder requirements
•    Enhance academic staff members’ capacity to audit and execute self-assessment of their respective academic programs.
•    Implement Quality Management Systems in line with Internal as well as External  ISO 9001:2008 standards
