Department of Internal Medicine

This information is standard to all the departments of the University.
The Department of Medicine is a young department which currently has three members of faculty. Faculty exhibits: commitment to Team work, strong collaborative linkages, willingness to adapt innovative teaching and examination methods and are based at the regional Teaching & Referral Hospital; Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH)

We in the department strive to train medical students who will become doctors who have the following qualities: Ethical practitioners with appropriate doctor/patient relationship skills; acquire excellent theoretical and clinical skills knowledge base, Lifelong learners, Team players with excellent communication skills with colleagues. They should be Critical thinkers and be active in research operations. We encourage an environment where students intellectually interact freely with faculty and establish programs where our students interact with their colleagues in other Medical Schools locally, regionally and internationally. The department participates in curriculum review, annual staff appraisal and involves students in staff assessment.

In tandem with Maseno University Mission and Vision Statements, the department believes in expansion and diversification, develop Programmes (MMED Int. Med/Sub-specialty Fellowships-Infectious Disease, Neurology, Gastroenterology and Renal Medicine in its first phase of development. Development of other sub-specialty disciplines will follow. Deliberate faculty recruitment policy with sub-specialty development agenda. Provide diagnostic & teaching support equipment (ECG, EEG, ECHO, GIT Endoscopy, clinical examination kits etc. Support is sought in this regard.

The department is reaching out to partners in research projects and adjunct faculty. We source and undertake consultancies and participate in innovation grants. Each department faculty strives to publish a minimum of two research articles yearly in peer reviewed journals.
