Department of Paediatrics and Child Health

               Department Overview

The department of Paediatrics is one of the departments of the school of medicine that was initiated with the beginning of the medical school Maseno University in January 2012.

The department of Paediatrics and Child health is mandated to train and produce health professionals who are competent and dynamic in their field.

In line with the School’s vison the department endeavors to be a one of excellence in the training of health professionals capable of addressing national and global health needs in the areas affecting Child Health and Paediatrics.

In order to produce health professionals equipped with adequate knowledge, skills, professional attitudes and competencies in health care delivery, research and innovation, we actively engage and mentor the students using various innovative teaching methods.

The department currently undertakes two undergraduate courses for the MBChB program, participates in three undergraduate programs being undertaken by other departments and also participates in the training of residents in the Family Medicine master’s program.

The department has ongoing research projects and endeavors to partner with other relevant stakeholders to enhance the research component of the training and provide a wide array of experience for our students.
