Department of psychology

The Department of Psychology is a newly created department having its first batch of students admitted for Bachelor of Psychology programme for academic year 2011-2012 Currently the department operates under the faculty because appropriate structures are not yet in place.The programmes offered are tailored to provide students with skills to promote and enhance  promotion of human development, and progress of human communities.  The programmes aims at producing graduates with a clear understanding of the principles of human behaviour; the programmes will further enable the student to develop coping skills, self acceptance, self appreciation, positive self image, self esteem and self dignity.


Setting the standard for excellence in training through the integration of research, teaching of students and the provision of service to the university, local region, and international communities

The mission of the Department of Psychology is to engage in activities that stimulate and promote the generation, application and exchange of psychological knowledge for the enhancement of human dignity through teaching of students, research and scholarship, and the provision of service to the university, local region, and international communities.

Quality Objectives

  1. To develop the discipline of psychology.To carry out Psychological educational goals in the context of a research-oriented department founded on the principles of scholarly excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and wide-ranging service.
  2. To produce psychologists who have basic and professional skills needed to solve psychological problems in society.
  3. To avail expertise in a variety of areas through consultancy.
  4. To disseminate knowledge through seminars, workshops, conferences and publications.
